Oregon Coast

We checked into the Ocean Lodge at Cannon Beach yesterday. Upon checking into our pet-friendly room, Cali marked her trail by immediately taking a leak in the living room. This caught all of us off guard. We can’t remember the last time Cali “went business” in the house–but the urge must have been too strong after sniffing the dogs who previously stayed in our room.

It was a beautiful day today in Cannon Beach–60’s and Sunny. After finishing breakfast, we took a relaxing walk on the beach and simply goofed around. I’ve had my Tsunami guard up the last couple days. Canon Beach is at seal level, and it was written up in the news shortly after the devastating quake that hit Japan. Apparently, the Cascadia Fault lies off the coast of Oregon–and experts expect a massive quake to hit the area at some point…leveling many coastal towns in Oregon. Fact or fiction, I’m just hoping the massive earthquake doesn’t happen during our visit. Yvonne joked the last major earthquake to hit this area struck in 1964, the year we were both born. It all sounds a bit surreal to me, particularly when you see Tsunami warning signs all over the roadways.

This afternoon, Yvonne and the chicks hit the shops in town and I went in search of a round of golf. I stumbled into Astoria Golf & Country Club, called my head pro from Manor–who subsequently spoke with Astoria’s pro to work out a reciprocity arrangement. They paired me with a member, and the golf gods blessed me with a 78 after running to the first tee without hitting any balls. The course was very interesting. Some of the holes had fairways that couldn’t have been more than 20 paces wide, with towering dunes lining both sides of the fairway. Target golf at its best. Off to Bandon tomorrow, and Bend on Saturday.
