Disney

Having just returned from Disney with the family, I can honestly say this is one of my least favorite vacation destinations. I say this with great trepidation because I cherish the joy and adrenaline my kids feel from the experience. Between our visits to Epcot, Magical Kingdom, Hollywood Studios (MGM), and Animal Kingdom, the kids were one big smile as they ventured from one ride, show, or fireworks display to another. As we returned to the Grand Floridian late each night, the kids were still amped up and wanted to go swimming in the pool. Personally speaking, I am thrilled to check this one off the list. Much of Disney to me is an absolute turnoff–big crowds, long lines, nothing but the smell of nasty food hitting the hot grease. Couple this with my severe motion sickness and $4.50 pretzels–I’m happy to be home. The kids asked when we’d be able to visit Disney again, and I replied–”the day you’ve saved enough money to take your own family to Disney.” If I had one small recommendation, it’s that Disney should work harder to promote healthy eating…or simply have more healthy dining options. You can buy a cheesburger, chicken tenders, french fries, ice cream, funnel cakes etc. at every corner of the park. Yet, it wasn’t until the last day we found one cart w/ fresh fruit. With obesity being such a huge problem in our society, nothing good comes out of eating garbage all week while you’re at Disney. The obesity rate at Disney must be two times the national average–and quite frankly–it’s hard to watch.
