Rapid City, South Dakota

We left Chicago on Thursday morning and drove 900+ miles to Rapid City, South Dakota–where we spent two nights. It took the better part of 15 hours, but the driving was easy…75 MPH speed limit and all one road (90 West). This was some of the most remote countryside seen, and the drive between Sioux Falls and Rapid City has been labeled the twilight zone by some locals. We checked out the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse during our 24-hour stay. We also had a chance to visit with John and Mary Malek, who Yvonne had met in college while living in Fort Collins, CO. Many years has passed since they last saw each other, and we had a nice dinner at their house…all while witnessing some of the most violent lightning storms out their front window. Two for two on the crazy weather.
